Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) is Already Available For Download, Allowing For Easier and Advanced Modding

Ahead of the game's global launch later this week, the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) has already been available for download.

Starfield launched through early access some days ago, and yesterday modder 'Ian Patterson' released, as some call it, the holy grail of mods for Bethesda games - a script extender. While this mod doesn't do much on its own, the extender is basically the foundation for using more advanced mods within Starfield. It allows for far easier modding without modifying the game files. As such, there are no permanent side effects. "Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) is a tool adding additional scripting capabilities and functionality to the game", the description of the SFSE mod reads.

This mod comes from the same team as the Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE), but whereas the script extender for Fallout 4 was released almost a year after the public release of Fallout 4, the Starfield Script Extender has been released ahead of the game's public launch - quite an accomplishment.

It should be noted that the SFSE currently only works with the Steam release of Starfield, and the Windows Store and Game Pass versions are not supported.

The Starfield Script Extender can be downloaded via Nexusmods here. The latest version of the mod can also be found on GitHub here. Since the game's early-access release some days ago, modders have released various mods for it, including FOV and optimization mods as well as a DLSS 2 and XeSS mod that replaces FSR with DLSS/XeSS. In addition, there's also a DLSS 3.5 mod that offers a major improvement in image quality compared to the game's native image quality. Also, those looking for a bit of a PlayStation experience while playing the game on PC might give this PS5 Icons mod a try - it replaces Xbox icons with PS5 icons.

Starfield launches globally for PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6. As said, the game is available now via early access for those owning the Premium and Constellation Editions.
