The MMORPG Elder Scrolls Online can now be claimed for free via the Epic Games Store on PC. The promotion is valid from today through next Thursday at 5 PM and includes the base game (usually priced at $19.99), which also provides access to the Morrowind Chapter.
Elder Scrolls Online has registered over 22 million players across all platforms. Last month, the game received its seventh expansion (or Chapter), Necrom. Necrom adds two new regions: the Telvanni Peninsula and the Daedric Realm of Apocrypha.
The Telvanni Peninsula had not appeared in an Elder Scrolls game since the very first installment of the franchise, Arena, released in 1994. It is home to the highly reclusive and self-centered mages of House Telvanni of the Dunmer, or Dark Elf, race. Visually, it takes some cues from the beloved Morrowind geography with the giant mushrooms. Still, it is also slightly different in that there are no huge active volcanoes here, and it is a bit more verdant overall.
The Telvanni Peninsula is also where Necrom, the hub city that gives this Elder Scrolls Online Chapter its name, is located. Necrom is rumored to be incredibly old and possibly built on the bones of a creature once defeated by Vivec, the Dunmer Warrior-Poet God. It's also where the noble Houses bury their dead.
Apocrypha, on the other hand, is the kingdom of the Daedric Prince of Knowledge, Hermaeus Mora. It looks very different and everything is seemingly made of books, including some cute creatures. The first biome is admittedly very much based on the appearance of Apocrypha in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but the second biome is a lot more alien, as it is meant to reproduce the true state of Hermaeus Mora's mind.
Epic is also running a cross-promotion where if you claim Elder Scrolls Online through EGS, you also get Sigil of the Alliance War Back Bling, Ebonheart Battleaxe Back Bling, and Ebonheart Battleaxe Pickaxe in-game cosmetics for Fortnite. The Sigil of the Alliance War Back Bling can only be unlocked by claiming the game, while the other two cosmetic items can also be acquired separately via Fortnite's in-game shop from today until August 5th.
If you first purchase the Ebonheart Battleaxe Back Bling and Pickaxe in the Fortnite in-game shop and then claim Elder Scrolls Online through the Epic Games Store, Epic will award you a grant of 1200 V-Bucks.
Speaking of the Epic Games Store, the Summer Sale 2023 also kicked off today with plenty of juicy discounts and an extra 10% you can earn back through Epic Rewards for the duration of the Summer Sale (which runs through August 3rd at 11 AM Eastern Time).
