Fortnite Ranked Play Mode Teased by Epic Games on Twitter

Fortnite Ranked Play

Today, Epic Games has shared a not-so-mysterious video teaser on Twitter that might hint at a Fortnite Ranked Play coming to the Battle Royale mode.

The tweet urges Fortnite players to 'rise through the ranks' before showing a series of logos likely to refer to the various ranks available in Fortnite Ranked Play.

At about the same time the tweet went live, users noticed a new tab in the game using one of those logos. The tab also reveals Fortnite Ranked Play may begin on May 16th, per Reddit user TK-on-Alt's snapshot.

The big question within the community is what will happen to Arena, the current main competitive game mode available in Fortnite: Battle Royale. In Arena, players earn a currency called Hype for eliminations and placements. The player's ranking in the League is determined by Hype. With enough points, you can qualify for cash cups and tournaments. Several items are unavailable in Arena, such as Grenades and Rocket Launchers.

However, it is a common opinion among fans that Arena isn't a great competitive mode. This new Fortnite Ranked Play could be a way to reignite the competitive scene of the Battle Royale mode.

As a reminder, Fortnite Battle Royale's latest event is 'Find the Force'. It's a return to Star Wars, albeit to an earlier time when there was no such thing as Darth Vader yet.

Players can pick between Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One, or Obi-Wan Kenobi as Jedi Trainer or Darth Maul as Sith Trainer. The gameplay has been suitably enhanced with force abilities like pulling, pushing, and throwing objects. Pulling and pushing can be performed on players, too, and equipping the lightsaber enables players to sprint faster and double jump, as befitting Force users. Epic Games also added the iconic DC-15 Blaster assault rifle.

However, none of these abilities and items are currently enabled in the Arena mode or tournaments, and the same will likely be true for the upcoming Fortnite Ranked Play. That said, Epic explained they might include them after the conclusion of FNCS Major 2. The Find the Force event runs through May 23rd at 9 AM Eastern Time.
