Las Vegas Sands Faces Opposition to New York Casino Location

Las Vegas Sands is having problems convincing residents in Nassau Hub that having a casino there is a good thing. In the race to win one of just three casino licenses in downstate New York, the casino giant wanted to develop the resort in Nassau Hub but the Hofstra University’s Student Government Association are opposing the development as it adjoins what would be the site if accepted by lawmakers for one of the licenses.

However on the other side both Long Island University and Nassau Community College support the development as it wants to create a hospitality management program with Las Vegas Sands.

Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive will have the final say on whether Las Vegas Sands will be given the green light if successful in gaining a license.

Las Vegas Sands says that its “goal is to make this proposal a truly collaborative one that all Long Islanders can be proud of, and we are eager to continue the process and share ideas with all interested groups.”

The Nassau County Legislature will vote on the proposal from Las Vegas Sands sometime in April and both sides have vested interest in the outcome, should Las Vegas Sands lose it is not clear if the casino giant has an alternate location in mind.
