Less than a day after the game's official launch, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer proudly announced that Starfield has exceeded one million concurrent users across all platforms (PC, Xbox Series S|X, and cloud).
It speaks of a large player base from the onset, especially on Game Pass. Starfield peaked twelve hours ago at around 270K concurrent users on Steam, so there must have been at least 730K users between Xbox and Microsoft Store on PC. New records will likely be set during the weekend when gamers have more time to dedicate to the fresh release.
Starfield is the first new IP created by Bethesda Game Studios in over 25 years. The developer of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout has long wanted to create a sci-fi roleplaying game, mainly due to the push of Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard, who tried multiple times over the years. However, the technology to realize that vision wasn't available until fairly recently.
The critically acclaimed result speaks for itself. The game earned a 9 out of 10 in our review:
At the start of my journey in Starfield, my experience was admittedly rather dull and boring, but as I collected more Artifacts and got involved in the sprawling sci-fi universe created by Bethesda, I started warming up the game, getting to the point that I have some difficulty putting it down. While Starfield refines more than innovates the typical Bethesda formula, it is undoubtedly one of the best games ever made by the studio and one of the year's finest titles.
PC gamers can make it even better thanks to the already impressive list of enhancement mods and tweaks available. This is merely the beginning, as Starfield mods are sure to become even more expansive and enticing when the official tools are shared with the community.
By the way, Todd Howard is also set to Executive Produce the upcoming Indiana Jones in development at MachineGames. Just yesterday, he hinted that the game may be unveiled next year.
