Cuphead Limited Edition for Switch Giveaway
For those unfamiliar with the game, Cuphead was the debut game of independent developer Studio MDHR. A run-and-gun game focused on boss fights, Cuphead garnered widespread critical acclaim and sold extremely well. It received an 8.9/10 score on Wccftech from Rosh Kelly:
The animation, soundtrack and atmosphere of the game are all just outstanding. Taking inspiration from those old cartoons we’ve seen referenced in media for years, Cuphead lets you live it. Everything from the backgrounds to the way the characters move with big expression gestures feels true to the medium it's emulating. Even the story feels like a throwback to a fabled time that none of us have any first-hand experience with. Having gambled their souls against the devil, Cuphead and his friend Mughead are now collecting souls for Lucifer in an attempt to save themselves. Heavy-handed moral overtones against a backdrop of slightly unnerving characters feel like something out of the 1920’s. Like Bioshock Infinite's Dimwit and Duke, it feels period accurate even if we know that isn’t the case.
With great design, imaginative enemies, and a fantastic atmosphere, the only thing that really lets it down is its stiffness. The animation alone is nearly worth the price of admission, but if you want imaginative bosses to fight as well, you're in luck with Cuphead. Just make sure you're prepared to die - a lot.
The DLC called The Delicious Last Course (included with the Cuphead Limited Edition) launched last year to a similarly strong reception. Here's the final summary from Wccftech's review:
Cuphead: The Delicious Course is excellent fan service and the perfect continuation of a game that felt almost impossible to replicate. From the new boss designs to the addition of Miss Chalice, there is so much for everyone to enjoy, whether they just want to beat the new challenges or conquer them entirely.
