Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 4 Rolled Back Temporarily Due to Build Error Causing Crashes; Game Reverted to Hotfix 3

Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 4

Overnight, as promised, Larian Studios rolled out Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 4. This patch, however, has now been rolled back due to unexpected issues.

Yesterday, the Belgian studio provided a short update roadmap for its latest hit title, confirming that hotfix #4 will be released before the game's first official patch. Fast forward a couple of hours, and Larian released the fourth hotfix, packing fixes for crashes, bugs, flow issues, and some issues with companions trying to sleep in.

The full release notes for hotfix #4 can be found here. Unfortunately, after deploying this patch, players encountered crashing issues, and as such, the hotfix has been temporarily rolled back while the team is looking into the cause of these issues. Meanwhile, Baldur's Gate has been reverted to hotfix #3.

"Due to a build error causing new crashes, we’ve rolled back Hotfix 4 for the time being", Larian explained on Twitter. "We'll re-release it as soon as we’ve fixed the cause."

Even more annoying might be that players who have saved a game after applying Hotfix 4, won't be able to load those saves. "If you’ve saved since updating, you won’t be able to load those saves until we’ve re-published Hotfix 4", the development team writes. "You can keep playing on your Hotfix 3 saves, you just won't be able to load saves from today’s Hotfix 4 until it’s pushed live again. Sorry about the inconvenience."

No ETA has been provided on when hotfix 4 will be re-released just yet, but as always, we will keep you updated.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available globally now for PC. The third installment in the successful Baldur's  Gate cRPG series was released earlier this month after a lengthy early-access period. Aside from launching on PC, the game is also coming to PlayStation 5 next month. An Xbox version is also in the works, but the team needs more time to get split-screen play working on Microsoft's Xbox Series S console.
