Silent Hill: The Short Message Plot Premise Leaked by Dusk Golem

Silent Hill: The Short Message

A few hours ago, renowned leaker Dusk Golem shared the plot premise of Silent Hill: The Short Message in a series of messages posted on Discord and later shared on Reddit.

Needless to say, spoilers may follow, although Dusk Golem warned the synopsis may be a bit outdated.

According to the info, players will take charge of Anita, a teenager without any friends except Maya. The two have known each other since they were very young and Maya still makes time for her friend, despite being popular in their class. Recently, though, the two have drifted apart mainly because Anita developed unhealthy habits like harming herself.

Suddenly, Maya is found dead, seemingly having committed suicide. Anita decides to go where her body was found to try and get a sense of why Maya committed this act out of the blue. This apartment is abandoned and has its own history, said Dusk Golem, hinting that it may be a character of its own. To make things more mysterious, someone is still using the in-game social media with Maya's account.

Silent Hill: The Short Message was never officially announced by KONAMI. We found out about it via the ratings issued by the South Korean and Taiwanese boards. Interestingly, the rating was removed from the Taiwanese board's website in late April. Dusk Golem said the removal could mean the game was delayed or canceled. He didn't provide any updates on the game's status with the new leak.

It is unclear whether Silent Hill: The Short Message will ever be released. Luckily, there's a lot of other projects that we know for sure are on the way, starting with the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake in development at Bloober Team for a rumored early 2024 launch window. Silent Hill f, based on a new story set in 1960s Japan which will be written by the man behind the cult visual novel Higurashi When They Cry, is in development at NeoBards (Resident Evil Resistance, Re:Verse); No Code (Stories Untold, Observation) is working on the spin-off Silent Hill Townfall; last but not least, Bad Robot, Behavior Interactive, and Genvid are working on the interactive streaming series called Silent Hill Ascension, which received a new trailer last month.

On top of all these gaming projects, a new movie titled Return to Silent Hill is now shooting. Based on Silent Hill 2, it'll feature Jeremy Irvine as James Sunderland and Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary.
