Remnant II is the sequel to 2019's acclaimed third-person shooter spin on the Soulslike formula. The first iteration sold over three million units and became a sleeper hit, racking up over 10 million downloads in a blink when it went free on the Epic Games Store.

For Remnant II, Gunfire switched publisher (from Perfect World Entertainment to Gearbox Publishing). The game was unveiled at The Game Awards 2022. Over time, the developers laid out their vision for expanding the best systems of Remnant: From the Ashes, starting with procedural generation. We discussed some of the improvements designed for this sequel in last month's interview with Principal Level Designer Cindy To.

In other Remnant II news, Gunfire Games released a new archetype reveal trailer a few hours ago.

The Hunter focuses on long-range precision based gameplay. Their perks are designed around making every hit count and capitalizing on each opportunity. The key to their entire kit is the Prime perk Dead to Rights: scoring ranged weak spots while a Hunter skill is active extends its duration even beyond its initial values. In addition to the Prime, the Hunter also has a unique ability called Marking when marked enemies can be seen through walls and are more susceptible to Critical Hits from the entire team.

Their first skill, Hunter's Mark, instantly reveals and marks all enemies in a wide range while active. Every enemy is automatically marked for the entire team. With their second skill, Hunter's Focus, while aiming down sights their target will become automatically marked if they remain focused without shooting. They gain huge bonuses to accuracy, damage, and critical chance the buff remains active so long as the Hunter remains aiming. Their third skill, Hunter Shroud, lets the Hunter instantly slip into the shadows making it easier to avoid damage while moving. Their next attack, Drop Shroud, marks enemies within close range and grants a strong ranged and melee damage buff.

If the hunter doesn't attack for a short duration, they instantly re-shroud. Rounding out their kit is the archetype trait Long Shot, which increases the effective range of all firearms.

The game features multiclassing, so you'll be able to mix and match two classes to create your own playstyle. Stay tuned on Wccftech for more on Remnant II ahead of next week's launch.
