This year’s “E3 Season” (E3 itself is dead, but you get my gist) is almost over, with showcases from big publishers like PlayStation, Xbox, and Ubisoft behind us, but there’s one major name that hasn’t joined in on the festivities – what about Nintendo? The Big N works in mysterious ways, sometimes skipping the E3 season altogether, but it feels like some clarification on their second-half-of-2023 schedule is in order.
Well, there are mounting rumors we may hear something soon. According to the Brazilian website Universo Nintendo, a new Nintendo Direct will drop sometime this week on or before Friday (June 23). Nintendo insider Nate the Hate is also strongly hinting that some sort of big Nintendo news will be coming between June 20 and June 23.
So, if a Nintendo Direct does happen this week, what can we expect we see? Well, another purported Nintendo insider Pyoro ND has potentially stepped in to provide some info. Pyoro is relatively new to the leaking game, but they seemingly got information on Everyone 1-2-Switch, Sonic Superstars, and other recent announcements right. According to them, the Nintendo Direct will include the announcement of a new 2D Super Mario Bros. game and a remake of an SNES classic.
Of course, you should take all of this – the existence of a new Nintendo Direct and any of the games rumored for it – with a big grain of salt for now. If a Nintendo Direct is coming this week, we’ll likely hear about it tomorrow, given it’s a holiday in the U.S. today. That said, with both Sony and Microsoft getting in on the E3-season fun this year, it would be very surprising if Nintendo sat it out altogether. The new 2D Mario also isn’t that hard to believe – given the huge success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, it would make sense for Nintendo to want to get some new Mario content out, and a new 3D title is probably still years away. As for that SNES remake, your guess is as good as mine.
What do you think? Are we getting a new Nintendo Direct this week? And if we do, what do you hope Nintendo reveals?
