Sharp To Supply LCD Displays For A New Console, Possibly The Nintendo Switch Successor
Following the success of the Nintendo Switch first and the Steam Deck more recently, handheld gaming consoles have become all the rage, with multiple manufacturers working on different portable gaming systems. One of these upcoming systems will sport LCD displays provided by Japanese manufacturer Sharp.
As part of its financial report, which was shared earlier today, as reported by Bloomberg's Takashi Mochizuki, it has been confirmed that Sharp will provide LCD displays for a new game console. Answering a question on the matter, Sharp's president further confirmed that it won't be a new display for a game console that is already out but a display for a new console, so the company won't be supplying their displays for some hardware revision of sorts.

Interestingly enough, the slide mentioning the new console in Sharp's financial report was promptly removed not too long after the report went public, so it seems like the Japanese manufacturer was not meant to say anything on the matter yet, further fueling speculation. As Sharp claimed back in 2019 they would provide their IGZO displays to Nintendo, and the company is surely working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Japanese manufacturer may be providing their LCD displays for this unannounced system, which won't release anytime before April 2024. Sony is also rumored to be working on a handheld console called the Q-Lite, but as they have never used Sharp screens for their portable consoles, it sounds unlikely they will switch the provider for their Remote Play-focused device.
