Last month it was announced Company of Heroes 3 was coming to Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and now the new version of the WWII real-time strategy game is available. Vancouver-based developer Relic Entertainment have completely revamped the game’s UI, controls, and more to make the game playable and fun using a controller rather than the more traditional keyboard and mouse. But perhaps you’re not convinced or just want to know how the new controls will work? Well, a series of videos showing off how Company of Heroes 3’s new controller-friendly HUD, command wheel, map, and more have been released. You can check them all out for yourself, below.
“Built for gamepads, Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition puts control of the battlefield in your hands with all new features designed to help you achieve ultimate victory in war or while battling other players in PvP. The new Command Wheel empowers you to quickly issue commands to your soldiers, allowing quick maneuvers and strategies. If the combat gets too heavy, use Full Tactical Pause in single-player modes to freeze the action, allowing players to breathe, re-examine the battle plan, issue new orders, and watch the action unfold.”
Strategy games will never be 100 percent ideal with a controller, but it looks like Relic have done a solid job adapting to gamepads Haven’t been keeping up with CoH3? Wccftech’s strategy master Chris Wray found the PC version to be compelling, if somewhat rough around the edges, in his full review…
“Company of Heroes 3 is a triumphant return to the game that raised the bar for Real-Time Strategy. With unparalleled action on the battlefield, that alone makes it work your while. The new grand-strategy campaign is a welcome addition, though it has some flaws, ranging from performance issues and bugs to simply being too easy. Despite this, it's impossible not to recommend Company of Heroes 3 for the excellent game that it is.”
Company of Heroes 3 can be played on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. What do you think? Does this look like a worthwhile experience or will you be sticking to your mouse?
