Star Trek: Resurgence Locks Phasers on a May Release Date

Star Trek Resurgence

Get ready to explore that final frontier all over again, because the latest Star Trek video game has locked down a release date. Star Trek: Resurgence is a new narrative adventure game, which is being created by Dramatic Labs, a new studio made up of several Telltale Games veterans. Arguably the thing that really sets Resurgence apart is that it takes place in the original Star Trek timeline, shortly after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In other words, it’s aiming to deliver that classic Star Trek experience you can’t really get anywhere else anymore (not even from new Star Trek TV shows and movies). You can get a taste of Star Trek: Resurgence gameplay, below.

Not the most technically cutting-edge game (Dramatic Labs is a small team), but nevertheless, as a fan of classic 90s Star Trek, that footage put a smile on my face. Need to know more about Star Trek: Resurgence? Here’s a quick official story description…

“Star Trek: Resurgence is a bold interactive narrative game set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation's timeline. A worker uprising threatens the tenuous peace between two alien civilizations, and Starfleet is forced to intervene.

Players experience the conflict and larger mystery from two key perspectives. The U.S.S. Resolute’s First Officer Jara Rydek is part of the diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock that's tasked with finding a resolution – and uncovering the ultimate source of this tense situation. Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz highlights how the mission plays out from the lower decks, caught up in the events in his own unique way. Throughout the gripping story, players can interact with the Star Trek universe like never before, with moments of authentic action and critical decisions that shape the broader narrative in subtle and unexpected ways.”

Star Trek: Resurgence launches on PC (via the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on May 23. It’s a fitting date, as May 23 was when the last episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation aired nearly 30 years ago. Don’t let it be said the makers of this game don’t know their Trek lore.
