Silent Hill 2 Remake is Almost Finished, but Release Timing is Up to Konami

2023 has already been a big year for survival horror remakes, with Dead Space making its grand return and Resident Evil 4 about to, and it seems we may not have long to wait for the anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake. That said, getting our hands on the game is still subject to the whims of Konami, so don’t go holding your breath.

In a recent Polish interview, Bloober Team president Piotr Babieno confirmed the Silent Hill 2 remake is “technically ready,” which doesn’t mean they’re entirely finished, but they’re close. Translation issues may be in effect here, but it sounds like the game is essentially done and they’re just in the final bug-squashing and polishing phase. That said, Konami still holds the strings when it comes to the game’s release.

“Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It does not mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Babieno expresses his desire to make Bloober Team the next “Naughty Dog or Ninja Theory.” To achieve that they’re working on numerous projects at once, including the Silent Hill 2 remake, and original IP for Private Division, and collaborations with Draw Distance (Serial Cleaner) and Rogue Games (The Last Case of Benedict Fox). They also plan to branch out to different forms of media…

“We want to implement horror-game, horror-film, series and book projects, but not entirely and directly through us. We want them to be based on cooperation. We are also not afraid of M&A transactions, but it is not our intention to take over companies that are simply large or popular. Such an entity must have our DNA and fit into Bloober's long-term strategy.”

The Silent Hill 2 remake has been announced for PC and PS5. A release window has yet to be officially announced, but everything’s pointing to sometime in 2023. When do you think the Silent Hill 2 remake is launching and are you looking forward to it when it does?
